UBC'S Department of Theatre and Film is pleased to host the inaugural SINOPHONE PLAY READING SERIES, featuring staged readings IN ENGLISH of three award-winning plays of the World Sinophone (Chinese-speaking) Young Playwright Competition and a full production IN CHINESE of the third prize winner, happening on select dates from January 25 to February 11. 

All three readings of the top three prize-winning plays are FREE, and include a post-show discussion, except as below.

January 25 at 7:30pm: Eury Chang directs the first prize winner, HOLY CRAB! by Zhu Yi and translated by Wei-ming Liu.

February 1 at 7:30pm: second prize winner, DIRTY PAWS, OR HOW TO MAKE A GREAT DOCUMENTARY by Zhao Binghao and translated by Dan Bao.

February 8 at 7pm: reading IN ENGLISH of third prize winner, FALLACY OF THE FIST by Chien-jen Wang and translated by Kiat-sing Teo, followed by a full production IN MANDARIN by the Face Drama Club, which formed in 2014 to focus on producing plays in mandarin Chinese.

February 9-11 at 7:30pm: performances of FALLACY OF THE FIST in Mandarin. Please note these shows are ticketed.
