Job Posting: CultureBrew.Art Community Builder

The Community Builder at Visceral Visions will work to support users (artists and engagers) of CultureBrew.Art (CBA), a web platform featuring a searchable Canada-wide database of Indigenous and racialized artists working in every artistic discipline (literary, media, performing, and visual arts). The contractor will be the first point of contact for artists and engagers needing support to create membership accounts (artists), and subscription accounts for engagers seeking to find and hire BIPOC artists.

This position will collaborate and work closely with CBA’s Co-Directors, Community Engagement Producer, and Technical Team. This role is best suited for an equity-aware self-starter who is excited to work with arts and non-arts communities to promote and increase awareness about the CultureBrew.Art initiative, and assist users with technical or user issues. As the position requires remote work, the contractor selected will be expected to provide their own laptop and software to complete their work, as well as have a reliable internet connection to participate in regular video meetings. 

Hours: 15-20 hours a week, flexible scheduling, however must be able to work a minimum of 2 hours/day, Monday - Friday, in order to provide timely front-line support; possibility for growth for the right person
Compensation: $27.00/hour + applicable GST
Contract Period: Immediately to July 2025
Reporting: This position reports directly to CultureBrew.Art Co-Director Valerie Sing Turner for the duration of this contract.

Duties Include:

1. Artist Portal & Engager Portal Support

  • triage front-line issues, including
    • account sign-up/registration issues
    • tech issues
    • deactivation requests
    • promo code and bursary requests
    • Stripe and other payment issues
    • navigation issues
  • respond to all requests for support in a respectful and timely manner, i.e. within one (1) business day
  • schedule and conduct online meetings with artists and engagers in order to better understand and assist with CBA issues, as needed
  • escalate issues to other team members as appropriate
  • identify patterns of issues and suggest improvements to systems to increase responsiveness and/or reduce need for 1:1 support, including
    • identifying need for updated or new copy for email communications
    • identifying need for other communications that might improve user experience with CBA

2. Opportunity Outreach

  • regularly research arts and non-arts organizations in Canada for opportunities relevant and of interest to CultureBrew.Art artists, including calls for artists, funding and awards, job positions, professional development, BIPOC community and connection opportunities, artist resources, etc.
  • using assigned company email address, approach a minimum of 5 organizations each week, inviting them to list their opportunities on CultureBrew.Art, and providing information about CultureBrew.Art’s subscriber benefits
  • coordinate with Outreach Support Contractor and Community Engagement Producer, as needed

Other

  • Weekly testing of CBA platform by creating new test artist, parent, and engager accounts to check functionality and report any bugs
  • check company VOIP account for messages once/week
  • check company PO box for mail once/week (phone call)
  • provide weekly written report of front-line and outreach activities
  • administrative or other support as mutually agreed upon

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in customer service, client support, or technical support
  • Experience working in the arts and/or non-profit sector and with artists
  • Comfortable with self-directed work
  • Experience and comfort working with tools for remote work (Slack, videoconferencing, G-Suite, Zoom, Google Meet, Asana)
  • Knowledge and understanding of intersectionality, and a passion for equity, representation, and decolonization
